Dr. Liang Shan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Shan is an expert on HIV latent reservoir, viral-specific CD8+ T cells, innate sensing of HIV, and humanized mouse model of HIV infection. His seminal work has advanced the understanding of priming CD8+ T cell responses for HIV reservoir clearance. Recently, his lab focuses on the role of the CARD8 inflammasome in HIV pathogenesis and cure. Dr. Shan has developed human cytokine knock-in mouse models named MISTRG-6-15, which supports robust reconstitution of human innate immune cells including monocytes, tissue macrophages, and NK cells, in addition to B and T lymphocytes. This humanized mouse model is key to the work proposed herein
